The winning piece of art selected to be used for the promotion of our Winter Open Exhibition, is this atmospheric acrylic painting ‘Reeds’ by local artist Jessie Davies.
Gallery Steel Rooms has selected Jessie’s work to represent our first ever Winter Open exhibition. Her work will be featured in the exhibition and on our posters and social media, to represent the show and Gallery Steel Rooms support of local and regional artists.
Jessie Davies is at home in North Lincolnshire, a short cycle ride from the wetlands of the Humber estuary. Encountering life through multiple disabilities in a fragile environment, Jessie’s work explores resilience in beauty, and beauty in resilience in the natural world around her.
WINNING PIECE: Reeds, Acrylic on Canvas
Reeds expresses Jessie’s intuitive response to the sounds, colours and textures encountered at the freshwater reed beds at Far Ings. By the ban of the river Humber, one can feel the wind, sense the movement in the reed heads, and glimpse the evening light through ever-changing patterns of foliage.
